Literature Text

Deep within the City of Ukiah two young children sit, skipping stones across one of its many lakes. As they laugh they are unaware of the darkness creeping up on them. The two of them looked at each other as if they were looking in a mirror. One was a pale white with dark yellow eyes and short, wavy, light indigo hair. The other girl was exactly the same except her hair was dark rouge. They looked at each other and clipped each other’s bangs out of the way. “Let’s stay like this forever. Okay, Diana?”  The girl with rouge hair said. Diana nodded and they went to look for another stone hand in hand. They stopped suddenly when a boy came out from the trees.

He had medium length, light gray, messy hair. He was pale white like them and had gray eyes. “Can I join you?” he asked kind of shy. “How old are you?” Diana asked holding on to the other girl’s hand tighter. “I’m nine years old.” He was a bit older than them so they thought it was strange of him to want join them. “You must be lonely if you’re here by yourself. You ever skipped stones before?” The other girl left Diana and extended her hand out to the boy. “Don’t! Papa said not to play with anyone from the outside!” Diana started to cry. The girl could no longer here Diana. The second her hand touched his she was engulfed in a black light. The boy pulled a small stone from his pocket and gave it to her. Within minutes the whole city was shrouded in darkness and only a few managed to escape.

The next morning a girl woke up to find she was alone. She looked back at the place she called home to find it a dark fortress for the dark ones. She ran to the lake where she was last. She looked at her reflection to see red running down her pale white skin. Her dark yellow eyes were now brown and her light indigo hair was dirtied with blood. She started crying when she noticed she was all alone in, the now, Ruins of Ukiah. Blood and tears fell to the ground until the girl stood up. “We were gonna be together forever. Now you’re gone. Papa said to stick together today. Why did you let go?” she asked until she couldn’t speak.
